Welcome to the 5th grade Class Curriculum

On this page students and parents can find my classroom policies, and expectations for 5th grade. As well as projects, class chapter books, and 5th grade field trips.

star Responsibilities

  • Bring in all daily materials.
  • Return homework folders on Tuesday.
  • Do all homework.
  • Have planners filled out everyday, and signed by parents.

starHomework Policy:

For 5th graders they will have about 50 minutes of homework 3 out of the 5 nights of the week. All students need to do all assigned work unless they have a HW pass. If a student doesn't finish work in class they will take it home for homework. Late Homework is not accepted. (see school wide homework policy)

  • Accelerated Reading (AR)
    A= 60
    B= 50
    C=40

    Accelerated Reading (AR)can only be used at school. Mr.Heffner along with the teachers decided to only allow students access to Accelerated Reading at school between the hours of 7:49-2:05. Now with 9 computers in the classroom all students have internet access so there should be no problem with getting on. (students will be allowed to log into their account and check their progress at home but they can not take a quiz)

    We have started Accelerated Reading instead of Reading Counts. This is a new reading program that Rio del Mar has purchased for the whole school. Accelerated Reading is an online reading program that features over 90,000 book titles, compared to the 2300 which Reading Counts offered. Also students can access the web site between the hours of 7:49-2:05, Monday through Friday. The students can log onto the Web site on the provided link and log in with their membership number and password, that have been provided by Mr.Kitch and Rio del Mar. The school is working on a points system that will be fair for all grades. It is important for the students to keep reading. ( the point system that I use now may stay the same or be changed a little)
